I just thought I would give everyone an update on the social tools that have been talked about at Forum:Social Tools and Forum:Requested Profiles. User:Ppiotr, a wikia tech, has added some features here, such as Special:GiveGift and the profile section for users.

I have also asked him if it is possible for an admin to select the layout which gaming has, and set it as default here at wikisocial.

You might have to give us an introduction on how to use these things, I can see where to change the default profile but it would be good if we could figure out how to keep our current style (colors etc) so we don't have to change everything to match. So any tips on how to do so would be appreciated (I imagine I just have to copy some css over from somewhere).

The reply i received from Ppiotr was "No, even admins cannot change wiki skin and end up with something like gaming. Gaming (and a few other wiki) are running on a different codebase than other wiki. An experiment of sorts." So it seems like we cant get a style like Gaming anyway.

On the bright side a new version of quartz skin is being developed more similar to the monobook style wikipedia has. Perhaps until then we could make wikisocial more appealing by;

  • Creating a nicer wide logo
  • Changing the background colour and other colours of the skin
  • Working on the main page to make it more 'new user' friendly. (Its more functional than the old one at least)

What do you think?

yep that all sounds good to me. How exactly is the main page not new user friendly? just out of curiosity.

I was thinking I would change the community portal to group tasks by their difficulty level (measured by time to complete) i.e could take 10 minutes, over an hour

I've changed the tag on the User page to "user" to avoid confusion. I think we could come up with a better name. I was thinking something like "biography".

any page that mentions profiles is probably quite confusing :-(
