How do we want to set up a sort of Networking/Friends list? I'm not sure i want to use Gallery like the Founder had done. Seems bulky and slow to me. I'd almost thing a Dynamic page list of sorts or maybe a Category Tree. WillSWC 22:26, 30 June 2007 (UTC)

I'm not sure what a Dynamic page does, but yeah a Category tree seems suitable to me--Drawde83 22:36, 30 June 2007 (UTC)
Dynamic page list is what Lists all the Topics on the Forum. WillSWC 22:39, 30 June 2007 (UTC)
I can't really picture how that would work, Would it be much of a problem to get both methods working and then let users decide which one to use.--Drawde83 22:48, 30 June 2007 (UTC)
I can check in with the admin and see what they think. Frankly if we can get Category's to work that may be the best way to do it. WillSWC 22:54, 30 June 2007 (UTC)
Maybe don't follow all of the above, and of course needn't be the only thing done, but agree with making the best use possible of categories Philralph 18:01, 1 July 2007 (UTC)

Thinking about the future Edit

It would be good if we had some great example profiles for others to learn from. Later on this could be real members profiles that others have voted on and this would help keep the quality levels up. --Drawde83 22:57, 30 June 2007 (UTC)

Of course, That's why I'm working so hard on getting my Profile up to par so you and other people can steal the code and modify it however we need it. BTW here's an idea of what the Category Tree will look like. WillSWC 22:58, 30 June 2007 (UTC)
Thats if you can make it better than mine ;-) --Drawde83 23:03, 30 June 2007 (UTC)
Haha, that's not hard to do. :P WillSWC 23:17, 30 June 2007 (UTC)

Reasons to join Edit

I've already had a go at this here but it would be good to have some reasons on the main page. It'll let people know they've come to the right place and that It will be worth their time getting involved.-- Drawde83 22:55, 2 July 2007 (UTC)

I've added a new box on the front page. Also I'm looking to having the skin changed to Smoke for the entire WikiSocial Wiki. I figure that content is less important as it would be on a normal wiki. If anyone has any objections with that please tell me now before I have it changed. Will SWC 00:32, 3 July 2007 (UTC)

Er... How does one see what Smoke looks like? Philralph 16:51, 4 July 2007 (UTC) : Will SWC 20:07, 4 July 2007 (UTC)

Thanks, looks good to me Philralph 06:28, 5 July 2007 (UTC)
Great, I'll have it changed to the default. Unless you think a darker version of that would be better. WillSWC 19:52, 5 July 2007 (UTC)

Group Suggestions Edit

I think we should create some groups.

  1. It would help people know how to get involved and create connections with other users.
  2. It would act as a prototype for future group pages.

  1. welcoming group. This group would allow new users to quickly create a profile, find out what groups to join and provide any other help newbies might need.
  2. themes and templates group. This group would allow us to figure out what templates need to be created and allow template creators to easily work together.

Yeah I could've jumped in and just started this but I think it's important that we're working on the same things at least while we have only a few contributors.

--Drawde83 01:00, 6 July 2007 (UTC)

Good idea. However we need to finish the userpage Template or at least some kind of easy guide to making your User page. WillSWC 01:19, 6 July 2007 (UTC)
well I think it would help us out with that as well, a "group profile" may share common elements with a member profile. Many people may not want to expose themselves by creating a profile about themselves but be perfectly happy joining a group.

I think we should set up a featured video group. We could also contact the youtube wikia for help. That way hopefully they wouldn't feel like we were pressuring them to join up here.
--Drawde83 02:49, 6 July 2007 (UTC)
Agreed. Though i still think a basic profile should be made up first. WillSWC 03:36, 6 July 2007 (UTC)
Ok heres a very simple profile, my names aren't the best so hopefully someone can come up with something better. I've put a warning on the layouts because once they start getting used in a number of profiles any changes will also effect those profiles. If someone comes up with a better layout the old one can be deleted once everybody has switched over.
--Drawde83 09:25, 6 July 2007 (UTC)
Wow man, Really nice work. That's not all that hard and quite nice looking. I'll work on a quick guide on using it. WillSWC 09:41, 6 July 2007 (UTC)
How's Testy Look for a how-to guide? If you like it I'll move it over to a more permement page. WillSWC 23:24, 7 July 2007 (UTC)

How-To Guides Edit

yep looks good to me. I hope to get a few more profile templates done so you may want to take that into account.--Drawde83 01:38, 8 July 2007 (UTC)

Yep. I've just gotten off Wikipedia:Starcraft And found a few guys who are intrested in starting a Gaming Clan. I figure i can base it off WikiSocial and get more people that way. WillSWC 01:42, 8 July 2007 (UTC)
whatever you can do to promote wikisocial is cool by me. I think it would be good to have little how-to guides inside a noinclude tag on the different template pages. What I'm also trying is create content templates (e.g. userbox container) and layout templates seperately. This will mean that it will be fairly easy to create a unique profile.--Drawde83 06:30, 8 July 2007 (UTC)
I kinda figured you'd say that. I'm trying to get WikiEd to work with the new Slate skin which will add a VERY easy editing tool for all users. WillSWC 07:10, 8 July 2007 (UTC)

Promote on CentralEdit

We have a lot of tasks to do and if we're the only ones working on them then they're going to take ages to complete and it won't encourage others to join. We should be promoting ourselves to editors on Central wikia so that we get some users with a bit of experience. They don't have to create profiles, In fact that may be counter productive (we want to be networking with other wikis). So any suggestions, I don't want to seem like I'm spamming central.

we could

  • update the wikisocial profile on central
  • list out wiki on the village pump page
  • featured wikia
  • collaboration of the month

--Drawde83 22:02, 12 July 2007 (UTC)

How about networking with some of the other midsized wiki's such as the YouTube Wiki and see if we can come to some kind of partnership? WillSWC 02:53, 13 July 2007 (UTC)
Sounds good to me --Drawde83 11:03, 13 July 2007 (UTC)
I'm going to talk with the members of the YouTube Wiki. If we set up a "Video:" Namespace there's no reason why we couldn't even consider the possibility of moveing all the articles from the YouTube wiki and taking out another one. That's actually been suggested a few times but they haven't found the right wiki to merge with. WillSWC 21:07, 13 July 2007 (UTC)
I Think at this stage of things I'm not really interested in merging, We don't really have lots of people here, and they don't seem particularly active. Since we can all easily contribute to each others wikis I think we should do that instead.--Drawde83 03:32, 14 July 2007 (UTC)
